IFAD approve US$ 10 million project that will support the NAP process in Mali

17 January 2014, Mali - A US$ 10 million grant to enhance adaptation in Mali has just been approved by the executive board of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The grant will support the l'Agence de l'environnement et du développement durable (AEDD), through IFAD’s Adaptation for Smallholder Agriculture Programme (ASAP).

The adaptation process in Mali is set to benefit from this enhanced support, which will further the dialogue on climate change, incorporating agriculture departments in government, as well as associations of smallholder farmers, cooperatives, women’s groups and the private sector.

Mali's NAP process is also set to benefit from a broad policy dialogue with a wide range of stakeholders. This will enrich the NAP, making the process more inclusive and participatory. IFAD will commence support for the NAP process in Mali within a few months.

The IFAD / AEDD partnership will also provide the government with relevant vulnerability information, in alignment with the Economic Development Plan - Social and Cultural (PDSEC) process on local planning and decentralisation.

In coordination with the NAP-GSP, IFAD is also providing support to the NAP process in Mali and other LDCs by interfacing with government processes through sectoral investment planning. By making climate finance available to agricultural investment programmes (through grants such as the IFAD’s ASAP), IFAD is working to re-orient these programmes to become climate-smart and more relevant to the climate change adaptation priorities of a country.
