A NAP Training and Consultation Workshop took place from 8-10 July, organised by the Ministry of Environment in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Planning and the UNDP Country Office.
It was opened by Mr Mathieu Ciowela, UNDP Country Director, Mr Boubacar Mbodji from the Economic, Social and Environment Committee, Mr Cheikh Tidiane Dieye from the National Climate Change Committee (COMNACC) and Ms Ramatoulaye Dieng, General Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.
The workshop gathered around 60 participants from the Ministries of Environment, Economy, Finance and Planning, Agriculture, Water and Sanitation, Fisheries, Health among other sectors, as well as governmental agencies such as the Centre de Suivi Ecologique and civil society. The NAP-GSP provided two trainers for the workshop: Imen Meliane and Julie Teng from UNDP who were supported by Aliou Diouf from Enda Energie Environment.
The training provided an opportunity for the participants to get better acquainted with the different steps of a NAP process, and to learn about and discuss the relevance for Senegal as well as entry points in existing processes, through a mix of practical exercises and presentations by the trainers and national experts from the COMNACC, the Meteorologic Agency and sectoral ministries.
The workshop was followed by a meeting on the fisheries sector chaired by Mr Diedhou, Director of the Fisheries Department, Ms Diouf, Coordinator of the USAID COMFISH project, and Mr Kaere from UNDP country office. It highlighted the importance of integrating climate change into sectoral planning and of fisheries for Senegal. These activities help launch the NAP process in Senegal, which will start with sectoral consultations and the drafting of a roadmap to advance the NAP.
