A training for LDCs Climate Change Negotiators was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia organized and supported by UNITAR as part of UNDP/UNEP global programme to build capacity of LDC’s to effectively participate in intergovernmental climate change process.
The training aimed to strengthen understanding of the mechanics of the negotiating process within the UNFCCC, inform main issues related to the entry into force of the Paris Agreement (PA), and develop specific negotiation skills and learn to best utilize these skills. Specific learning objectives were to:
a. Understand the complexity of multilateral negotiations within the UNFCCC and implications of the Paris Agreement for the LDCs;
b. Understand how to manage tensions, differences and conflicts that arise during multilateral negotiations;
c. Determine the right steps to take for an efficient and effective preparation for the negotiations; and
d. Identify procedural rules for the preparation and assessment of NDCs at national and LDC group level.
