National Adaptation Plan for climate change kicks off in Tajikistan
Dushanbe, 21 April 2022 - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organised a project inception workshop in Dushanbe on 21 April aimed at enabling the effective National Adaptation Plan process for Tajikistan.
The inception meeting was opened by Ms.Kiyomzoda Zarafo, First Deputy Chairperson of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, and Mr. Giorgi Vardishvili, Deputy Resident Representative (a.i), UNDP Tajikistan.
While addressing the inception meeting, Giorgi Vardishvili stressed the importance of the collaborative efforts made by the government and development partners to tackle climate change in Tajikistan. He said, “UNDP would continue to work with the government and other stakeholders to identify the gaps and barriers to formulating the government’s vision for the National Adaptation Plan process under Tajikistan’s national development policy framework. This will contribute to the mainstreaming of climate change adaptation into national and sectoral development plans.”
Funded by the Green Climate Fund, the project intends to establish the institutional arrangements and capacities to develop and execute National Adaptation Plan to further an overarching approach to adaptation planning and implementation in Tajikistan. With a total budget in the amount of USD 2.7 million, the project plans to reach the targets by August 2023.
