6th meeting of the Durban Forum on Capacity-Building: ‘Enhancing Capacities for Adaptation in the Context of NAPs and NDCs’

10 May 2017, World Conference Center (WCC), Bonn, Germany: The 6th meeting of the Durban Forum on Capacity-building took place at the forty-sixth session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBIs). This session focused on capacity building for NAPs and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), with a view to enhancing the complementarity between the Durban Forum and the work of the Paris Committee on Capacity Building (PCCB), as well as considering long-term access to climate finance. 
 

In discussion:

There were three broad areas of discussion: Enhancing human, institutional and systemic capacities to design adaptation interventions in the context of NAPs and NDCs; Enhancing capacity to access finance for adaptation; and Strengthening the engagement of non-Party stakeholders to support capacity-building needed in the context of NAPs and NDCs. 
 
The main objectives of the meeting were to provide guidance for share developing countries experiences of designing and developing effective adaptation interventions and enhancing access to finance. This was also an opportunity to share with support providers, the capacity-building needs and gaps identified by developing countries in designing and implementing adaptation projects and programmes in the context of NAPs and NDCs. The report of the discussion informed the first meeting of the Paris Committee on Capacity Building, which took place later in the conference.
 

Building capacities to prepare and implement the NAP

 as part of an Expert Panel on building capacities to prepare and implement NAPs and NDCs, with a focus on designing of adaptation interventions, adaptation finance access, and engagement of non-Party stakeholders.
 
 
 
Background:
The Durban Forum on Capacity-building was established in 2011 under the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) to further enhance the monitoring and review of the effectiveness of capacity-building under the Convention. It has served as an annual, in-session discussion platform for Parties, representatives of the constituted bodies under the Convention and its Kyoto Protocol, and relevant experts and practitioners to share their experiences and exchange ideas, best practices and lessons learned on the implementation of capacity-building activities in the context of specific thematic areas.
